Today I let my bottle down

  Couldn't go any  farther

Today I let my bottle down

  I stopped loving my bottle today

I put it away

  Set it on the ground

Dug a deep hole

  Did it real slow

When you bury a good friend

  You know you're putting him

In his last bed

  What a friend

Today I let my bottle down

  My old friend

Ain't gonna be around

  Today I put him down

Turned and headed north

  Toward El Paso

It was hard to go

  I put my old friend down

I stopped loving him today

  El Paso, I'm on the way

"It's cruel" some would say

  But I will probably

Think of him every day

  The money he cost

Is all gone

  It's lost

But he was my best friend

  He was always there

To help me through my fear

  But today I let my bottle down

Couldn't go any farther

  Today I put my good friend down

Headed north to El Paso

  Don't know what I'll do

But gotta go
