                                   The Runner

Slip your shoes on, shuffle out the door
    Lope down the dusty road
   Don't look back anymore
Turn right on the sandy road
Start a slow jog, keep a steady mode
    Jog down that sandy road
   It's startin' to rain

Hurry "boy"  If they catch you
They gonna put you in chains
Then you be breaking stone in the rain
    Head toward the reset
   No Man's Land

They won't chase you into the land of the damned
The land of the hot sand
The breath of the desert wind
    Breathes hot air all day
But the breath of the desert night
Breathes cold air with all its might
   The predator birds ride the
    Heat devils out of sight
The reset wind will blow the hot sand
    Through your skin with delight

   Hurry, after a few days
    The mountains and the sea
   Will come into sight
When you get to the mountains
Find the pass, gather all your strength
The pass is the shortest in length
Get to the sea and in the sand lay
Let the waves wash your sins away
   Catch a steamship headin' north
Go to the land of the snow
Build an igloo nice and low
Get a guitar, play some "Hank"
Get a big piece of whale blubber
It's like money in the bank
   Kick back, you're all done
    You beat the 'run'

Next time you get a runner
    Don't shoot her down
There will be another comin'  around
