                                Walk Slowly

Riley Lincoln
WPB Fla
Nov 2012

Walk slowly as you walk away
It's not supposed to end this way
I thought we were together for life
Now you say you're not my wife

Walk slowly as you walk away
It's not supposed to end this way
I thought we would be together always
Now all I have is lonesome days

Walk slowly as you walk away
Soon you will be going down life's highway
Then you will get on the fast lane expressway
I will be left standing in life's driveway

Walk slowly as you walk away
I know I'll never see you another day
You will be far away in your hideaway
I'm sure you will be ready to play
How come you decided to stray
Walk slowly as you walk away
It's not supposed to end this way

(Fast upbeat honky tonk music)

May you crash on life's highway
May the wheels come off on the fast lane expressway
May the storm destroy your hideaway
May you catch the clap when you play
May you get lost when you stray
Because today I just hit the lottery
The lottery, the lottery

Hurry up and walk away
  Hurry up, don't go slow
I got places to go
 The Lottery   The Lottery
           The Lottery

Hold on monkey, hold on real tight
We're gonna ride thru this field of poppies tonight
Great monkey, you better hold on real tight
We are gonna tear these poppies up tonight
No use to try to fight
Gonna ride these poppies down tonight
In the morning we'll be laying in the ditch
(Isn't that a bitch, laying in the ditch?)

Now we gotta go find another big white horse
So we can ride thru the poppies again tonight
Hold on monkey, hold on real tight
 Everything will be alright

Make a Fool Out of Me

By Riley Lincoln
WPB Fla
December 2012

Could you make a fool out of me one time more
You have done it plenty of times before
Could you make a fool out of me one time more
Just do what you did before

Make a fool out of me like you used to do
Because this old fool still loves you
You had left me standing like the old oak tree
I want to be a fool like I used to be

Just one more time, make a fool out of me
   I know you don't understand
But I want to be a fool one more time

I wanna hold you real tight
I wanna hold you real tight all night
I want you to whisper in my ear
Tell me how much you love me
Tell me how much you really care
I'll be that fool one more time
Just like all the times before

I'll give you everything you've ever wanted
Just make a fool out of me one time more
Just like you did many times before
Make a fol out of me just like you used to do
Because this old fool still loves you
Whisper yes into my ear one more time
Make me feel like you are mine
And it will last all through time
Say I'm the best and you don"t care about the rest
Say you will be with me forever
And forever never ends

Make a fool out of me just like you used to do
Because this old fool is still in love with you

                    Springtime Carnival Poem

written by Riley 1997
recopy 2013

Well the first of April is here again
    Winter's almost through
Now comes springtime with promises
Of a season bright and new

The weather's crisp and breezy
    Where just a week ago
They suffered through the twenties
    Beneath an inch of snow

This time of year we're always broke
And I think about last fall
When a couple thousand in my pocket
    Was nothing much at all

Oh, we really loved Palm Beach
Having fun, going everywhere and laying back
But we would give almost anything
    To have our money back

Now we're headed back to Michigan
    To open up the show
We'll find ourselves  last on the left
    Down on "flat store" row

Oh well, we'll have each other
    The winter's nearly done
And the times ahead look pretty good
Though most of our money is gone

Next year we'll save all of our money
So we won't be springtime poor
But pardon us for laughing
'Cause we've said it all before

                                          The Great Divide

by Riley Lincoln Sr.
WPB Fla.
Jan 2013

One dark night in 1938 all the coal locomotives
Were headed for the  "Great Divide"
For one of their own had dies
    The man who did more
Than any man before
    All the great steam locomotives
Were thundering through the darkness of the night
    "Hot Boxes" were ignored
The trains roared

THe smokestacks threw out thick black smoke
Every train was going for broke
All of them were headed to the "great divide"
The "King of the Hobos" has died
The North Arctic Express steamed across
The snow-covered land of the midnight sun
Headin' for the "great divide"
It was a shock to hear the King had died
The Black Diamond Express
Out of the Virginia coal mine
Was hauling to make it on time

The Orange Blossom Special was steaming
Up out of the jungle in a hard rain
Some would call them insane
    Plow on through the rain
Hank Snow was bringing
   In the Golden Rocket
He was burnin' up the track
   And that's a true fact

The Golden Rocket was on its flight
    To pay respect
To the man who parted last night
    Every train was heading
For the Great Divide
The King of the Hobos has died
A boxcar was his home
    With a high golden dome
Boxes of Crown Royal were piled high
They said the man would never die

All of the trains stopped
    On the Great Divide
And held services for the man who died
    Some would say he was
The greatest man of his time

                  ----------King of the Hobos

Riley Lincoln
WPB Fla
Nov. 2012

I'm all the songs that I have heard
I'm all the songs that I have learned
I'm all the people I have met
I'm all the marks whose money I have spent
I'm all the women that believed
I'm all the women I deceived
I'm all the cities I have played
I'm all the countries I have stayed
I'm all the show lots in the rain
I'm one of the charter members
Of the carnival "Hall of Shame"

I'm the one outside of Montgomery that night
When Hank Williams saw the Light
I'm the one the was there when
Levon pulled into Nazareth half dead
Looking for a bed for his head
I'm the one standing outside Sun Records
I'm the one to hear Elvis hummin' "that's all
right momma" as he walked in
I'm the one to hear Jerry Lee do "Whole lot
of shaken'" as his wild life was to begin
I'm the one who heard Johnny Cash say how
"I Walk the Line"…I believed it in my heart
And in two weeks it topped the charts
I'm the one to see Carl Perkins
Kick up his blue suede shoes
Two weeks later I bought my suedes of blue

I'm the one whose seen them all walk in
I'm the one that was there
When Rock and Roll began

I'm Moon Mullican
and I will sail my ship alone
I'm the one who brought it home

                                        Three Floors Above

    by Riley Lincoln
WPB Florida
Sept. 20 ?

Here I stand at the bottom of the stairs
Three floors above is my only love
I left a little over a year ago
I hiked through thousands of miles
  Of ice and snow

But now I'm back
   And in my pack
I have a little sack
And it's full of that stuff
Men die for

There's enough gold to buy a little farm
Have those kids you always dreamed about
   Grow us a little garden
Sit on the porch together
   Under the stars above
And think of nothing but our love

My heart beats with pride
As I take my first step to the first floor
I'm so happy I don't have to wait any more
I see the top of the first floor
Only two more floors to go
I have reached the top of the first floor
Ready to head up the steps
   To the second floor
I've never felt like this before

I'm to the top of second floor
Only one floor more
Ready to go to the third floor
I see a light by her door
   Only a few steps more
I see a little note on her door

It says "Lucy May doesn't live here any more"
She waited more than a year
She now lives in heaven
   Up on the thousandth floor
Where her heart won't be broken any more
She waited as long as she could
God has taken her away as he said he would

                                                 INTRO STORY

                                        Honky Tonk Cowboy Band

Honky Tonk cowboy band was a small band out of El Paso
They has one hit fifty years ago.  they have played every
Honky Tonk from the great Atlantic Ocean to the wide
Pacific Shore.  They can see the end coming.  Bookings are
getting scarce, they want to make a hit record like they did in the
beginning.  That would be two hits in fifty years.

That would make them happy.  Maybe make a  little coin
(they are broke).  It's the beginning of the end.

true story by Riley Lincoln, WPB Fla,  March 2013

Honky Tonk Cowboys, Beginning of the End

Let's top the charts again, boys
  Let's top the charts again
Let's top the charts again, boys
Like we did when we began

We are the last of the Honky Tonk Cowboys
After fifty years it's about to end
Let's go out like we came in
Let's top the charts again, boys
Let's top the charts again

Let's write a song that'd make Hank proud to sing
Let's throw in a little Bob Will Western Swing
Let's make it a "happy sad song"
Let's make it where we can all sing along
Let's all drink to the beginning of the end
Let's top the charts again, boys
Let's top the charts again

This is what we have learned
Is that the train goes down the track
And it never comes back
  You always get the blues
When a good woman's love you lose
You only have two real friends
That's your dog
  And your whiskey you got
Hid in the holler log
If you stay in the flat lands
You don't have to worry about the fog
Let's remember how it used to be
How there were plenty of girls to hold
Plenty of hundred dollar bills to unfold
Wish we could have saved some of the girls
And kept some of the hundred dollar bills

So here we go, boys
Let's make some old honky tonk noise
Boys, I think it's just dreams
Anyway, that's the way it seems
I think maybe after dark tonight
We ought to slip over the mountains out of sight
Go out in the desert, build a little cabin
Drink some cold ones, smoke a little weed
And say the Hell with it….
We will just re-record our first hit
And….forget it

                                         Pan Head

Boy get on your "Pan head" and ride away
Just ride away, just ride away
When it's all over and there's nothing left to say
Just jump on your panhead and ride away

Just when you have lost it all
And you're gonna take the fall
Just make that panhead do a wheely
  And ride away…forget it all

They will hump you, they will dump you
  Then tell you good-bye
Just jump on your panhead and fly
  Go ahead and cry

That's the game in life we play
It will be game time another day
Just let the memories slip away
And remember what it costs to play
Then jump on your panhead and ride away

                         Oh MaMa Blues

By Riley Lincoln

February  2014

Oh Mama oh Mama got drunk last night
     Thought I went home with
    A lady from the night
When I woke up I found out
That it was a big transvestite

Oh Mama oh Mama what did I do last night?
Oh Mama oh Mama what did I do?
Look at the stubble on that face
     It's a real disgrace
No tellin' what has taken place
     God almighty, what a night
Am I gonna be all right?

Oh Mama oh Mama what happen to me
Oh Mama oh Mama what didn't I see?
What did old "Jack Daniels" do to me?
We don't have nothin' like this back in Tennessee
Oh Mama oh Mama what happen to me?

There she is in there sitting on the throne
Just listen to her piss and moan!

Oh Mama oh Mama I wanna come home
Oh Mama oh Mama am I gonna be OK?
This is rough on an old farm boy from Tennessee
Oh Mama oh Mama what did he do to me?

                                          When I Pass

                                                                                                         by Riley Lincoln, WPB Fla.
                                                                                                               January 2014

This old cabin is cold tonight
The logs are no match for
The cold north wind blowing in
We've been stoking the old stove
   But the heat….
    The old cabin won't hold
The old man laying in his bed
Is still able to raise his head
   His withered and wrinkled hand
Reached out from under the blanket
   And he said "whiskey please
    and I'll bet
   I'll never see another sunset"

So gather around, kids, and I will
Tell you what will happen when
                      I pass

   The thunder will start falling
    Down on the ground
Then it will bounce all around
And rain drops will turn to red rose petals
And drop on your lily-white sheets
    On your old oak bed

The moon will turn a beautiful blue
    And smile back at you
   And the twinkling stars
Will start to blink a beautiful pink
   The lighting will turn purple
And flash down all the old railroad track
Then turn around and flash all the way back
The wind will blow all the wildflowers
   From the plains
And all the pretty butterflies will pour
Out of the smokestacks of all the old
    Steam engine trains

   Butterflies and wildflowers will
    Fill the pale blue sky
If you look close you will see
    Me waving good-bye

The great waves on the oceans
    Of the world will stop
The surface of the oceans will look
Like a sheet of blue glass
All the big whales will surface
    All over the world
And blow high plumes of water into the sky
In tribute to the great Lord
In the "Sweet Bye and Bye"

Then the angels from the clouds high above
Will sing for exactly ten minutes about God's love
Then the sun will pop out, it will be eighty degrees
And it will be a beautiful day
And all the people will be free

                                   The Runner

Slip your shoes on, shuffle out the door
    Lope down the dusty road
   Don't look back anymore
Turn right on the sandy road
Start a slow jog, keep a steady mode
    Jog down that sandy road
   It's startin' to rain

Hurry "boy"  If they catch you
They gonna put you in chains
Then you be breaking stone in the rain
    Head toward the reset
   No Man's Land

They won't chase you into the land of the damned
The land of the hot sand
The breath of the desert wind
    Breathes hot air all day
But the breath of the desert night
Breathes cold air with all its might
   The predator birds ride the
    Heat devils out of sight
The reset wind will blow the hot sand
    Through your skin with delight

   Hurry, after a few days
    The mountains and the sea
   Will come into sight
When you get to the mountains
Find the pass, gather all your strength
The pass is the shortest in length
Get to the sea and in the sand lay
Let the waves wash your sins away
   Catch a steamship headin' north
Go to the land of the snow
Build an igloo nice and low
Get a guitar, play some "Hank"
Get a big piece of whale blubber
It's like money in the bank
   Kick back, you're all done
    You beat the 'run'

Next time you get a runner
    Don't shoot her down
There will be another comin'  around

                                                                                                                August 24

    It shuddered and shook
     the ground, it quaked
    It scared me to death
     I staggered with each heartbeat

    Black smoke poured out
     It had an awful sound

    You could smell
     the fire in the belly
    You could feel the terror
     in the ground
You could hear the steam pound
     The smoke teared your eyes

    It finally moved
     A man hollered "all aboard"
    Railroad cars said goodbye
     The bell it rang
    The whistle it blew
    Women cried
     Dogs howled

    The moon turned blue
     Black smoke arose
    Strong men shook with fear
     Old mamas spilt their beer

    The engineer tipped his hat
     Again the whistle blew
    The skies were clear
     The rains fell down
    The wolves howled
     The stars disappeared
The bunny rabbits went to higher ground

    The day turned to night
     The pretty birds took flight
    The sun turned cold
The lawn chairs began to fold
    The black smoke
     Poured from the stack
    Young men turned old
Said they would never come back
    Birds avoided the black smoke
For death was down the road

The Fourth of July was just another good
     The horses for the Merry-go-Round
    Were never found
     The bull plates were lost
Some say they were on hallowed ground
The old steam engine is pulling a heavy load
    Fifty cars up Hocus-Pocus Road
Some say this is the last trip
    Pull back on the throttle
     "Let her Rip"

    The train' gonna  take you
     Where only beautiful Butterflies fly
    Say hello to the Captain
     Say hello to the Queen
Praise the Lord for this great machine
We are all riding the black submarine
Blow that whistle, ring that bell
We are all riding the train
    To bring us all back
     And save us from Hell
    Hail to Mary
     Throw the ball long
Only the good and the lucky
     Will stay above ground
    When the moon winks twice
You will understand all the little mice

The big black cat waits around the curve
Thou shall not fear, the train will swerve
Hundreds of buckets of water the train needs
But watch out for what's hidden in the weed
    Hail, hail "Rock and Roll"
Old dirty face never goes slow
A beautiful trip down the tracks
Hummingbirds chirping while on their backs
The weeping willows won't weep today
Because the cannonball is on its way
Old Smokey pulls into the station at half-past nine
     Right on time
    The engineer tips his hat
Has a glass of sweet tea
And gives a lazy wave to me
     Then he says
    The next time we meet
It will be on the high sea
And here's a little advice from me to you
Never pull the finger pointed at you
    By a man named "Sue"
